7 Dysart.

January 2022, Commercial Storefront, Haliburton

7 Dysart is the new home office of ACM Designs in Haliburton, Ontario. The town has a long and interesting history that the new owners wanted to show through the design of their façade. This project consisted of researching the town’s history and building, researching the properties of historical storefronts, designing the façade, and detailing the construction of the façade for the clients.

Researching the History.

The historical building that now houses ACM Designs dates back to 1900 - 1912 and there has been at least one if not two new additions to the original building since then. There was evidence of the Free Masons once using the building, during a search of the attic space where decorative renaissance-like wall paper was found with mason symbols on it. Haliburton Village itself was founded in 1864 with the County of Haliburton following in 1874, both being named after Judge Haliburton from the English Land Company that bought up the County. The land was marketed as great farming land but people soon turned to logging and later mining when the fields turned up too many rocks and stones.
